Stone Town ctd.

view from the stair case at lunch spot

adaptation to the streets! Tons of chords are mangled across the street- as people adapt to living in a World Heritage site

Stone Town was a site of a large former slave market. We took the guided tour. My photos are crap as I didn't want to disrupt the guide for me to adjust the camera. So I tried to snap away, meanwhile attempting to digest the information he was sharing. It was a haunting place.

This was the women's quarters.

Where their legs are was the lavatory, the tide would come in and was it away. Where they are sitting is where 50 women and children would be crammed to wait for 3 or 4 days until their appraisal at market

their windows

Men's quarters. Again, same thing, where the woman is standing is where they would use the bathroom, and the platforms were for the men to sit. There were about 11 of these rooms total but today they have just 2 for public viewing.

The windows from the slave chambers from the outside of the building

a church was built in the place of the slave market

Red represents the blood spilled, and the circle represents the slave-post (selling tree) which was where the church was built over
