And MAN ARE WE EXCITED!!!!
Lately people were all on edge, counting down the days till their respective leave. Tine goes to Belgium , Anna to Italy and me the US this week, the soldiers take leave in Kampala, & Cormac and Sue are on climbing Kilimanjaro countdown. With the power on the fritz, the ladies losing all of their gas, and the water out for a couple days, we were all hanging on- many vent sessions, and lots of smiling for the simple sake of smiling-we made it thru to this week! We had what seemed like an endless amount of goodbye parties for those who left in Jan. One lady who shall remain nameless was not really a friend of many, but seemed to want to throw a dinner party. Yet, the food wasn't ordered (could have called that one! So, we waited for 3 hours in akward dinner table discussions). Really, when you see the same people day in and day out, you run out of material. Luckily I sat next to Lachin who is the Sister Sharon of humanitarian badassness. She was telling me all about her time with demining group work worldwide, and lastly in Libya before accepting a UN gender post (HUGE amounts of Female Genital Mutilation taking place in the mountain groups in the region- although outlawed in the country, this is a region where rules don't apply). The next day was a lovely walk to the pools- I wasn't catching my breath quite as much as usual . . . so I am improving? The US soldiers donated their Meals-Ready-to-Eat (MREs) to us just so the NGO workers could see what they were all about. It was a funny day.

Yeah, that bottle of wine is from an area of our town. Turns out it isn't the "import" we thought it might be. We thought perhaps we had a new local wine on the market from Kampala? But nope, after calling the cell phone numbers listed on the bottle a man picked up and told us he was actually in camp swahili. MMM mmm goodness? nope. cork went back on
Resting point-halfway up!
