And the journey to Kampala begins!! Before realizing my vacay time was going to get pushed up a month, Fletcher friend Elise and I planned a weekend trip to half-way point Sipi Falls for some R&R and gossip/wine time! As luck has it, our Fletcher friends bookclub was having their international skype session that weekend so we kindly asked if we could get them to move it from its usual Sunday slot to Saturday night so we could actually be in the same room! Of course our internet failed, but we were able to call Jillian who put us on speakerphone with her Skype session - so we could kind of hear what was happening. I have yet to read the book, Cutting for Stone, but swear I will get to it as soon as I am finished with Tom Wolfe's newest "Back to Blood"- soooo good! The car left Moroto early Saturday morning and by 12:30 we arrived at Sipi Falls- a location at the top of some mountains with 3 waterfalls. Moroto friends had encouraged me to try Sipi Lodge- and I can attest, it was worth every penny!! We were welcomed with a SALAD!! , pasta and pizza meal and white wine!(ok, that was ala carte!) Before lunch was served we did some quick tours of the property (one of the falls was right on the site!) and once the Moroto crew kept going, Elise and I went for a guided hike to see the main fall. We returned for some reading from our cottage, napping, and then a marvelous dinner with red wine. Back to the cottage for bookclub then bed. The next morning (after a great bfast of course!) we went to fall #3 and the upper loop hike. It was a great 3 hour hike and got us tuckered out for the 5 hour trip to Kampala. Elise was gracious enough to have her driver (and gas!) get me to Kampala with her. Now I stay in Kampala for the week until flying out at midnight Saturday. Can hardly wait! Will be home by Sunday night in Omaha, with layover in Detroit where I will get to see Joe and Christin!! Talk about good luck!
