Furniture!

As some of you may have known, I wanted to try my luck with a new little venture idea. A side business that could "do good" while also providing an outlet/revenue for my creative side. And the idea of repurposed furniture for a cause was born. I am in the pilot phase, so decided to start small with this project below- a little girl's wardrobe made out of an old entertainment center I bargained down at a thrift store. A friend/colleague at Anthropologie is on the auction board for her girls' grade school and she said she would love any donation. Voila- we had our "cause", or just a good kick in the pants to get this beast of a bureau out of the garage! Couldn't have done it without dad and mom- who donated countless hours late at night helping me to paint, paint, glue and paint this thing to perfection. I am off to the auction to see how it does! Fingers crossed :)

Baby Rylan John Goodby is HERE!!!!

Cousin Kate and hubby Paul delivered their son, Rylan John Goodby, 7lbs 12 oz on Thursday Sept. 20 at 8:21pm (I think I got all my facts right!!)

The day was nervewracking, as Kate was induced in the morning, spent the day walking the halls like a trooper and Paul was her steady rock. She was awesome throughout it all, truly an inspiration. I know if it was me in those shoes I would have been a lot crankier, anxious and hungry! Who knew you can't eat at all before you are induced! That's a long-ass day without any calories! Geeze. But they were just astounding. I paced the day away at the mall, trying to channel my anxiety for kate and baby into clothes for coming home in. I knew Kate wanted some fall clothes since returning to Omaha from Arizona (brrrr is around the corner) but didn't feel like shopping with a bowling ball in her belly. So, I took it on as my mission. She can get Rylan out, and I will get her wardrobe stocked. Lol, as the labor progressed and was taking longer, I figured out soon I would need more funds and enlisted the help of my aunts :) Three boxes later, plus the books I had already gotten for the baby, and the book my brothers got : http://www.amazon.com/Go-F-Sleep-Adam-Mansbach/dp/145584165X I was ready to see the baby and couple the next day. Where I have been "hiding"

Hello Blog-reading Loves,

I am sorry to be so MIA! I have been working hard on taking baby steps out into the next ventures of life from the comfort of home.

After a mahvelous trip dropping mitchy off to college and reconnecting with some of my old college roommates (shout out to beks, hampton, and maureen) I decided to get a job to help with my wardrobe and get me out of the house.

Turns out Anthropologie has been understaffed, so when I got hired they put me on the schedule and it's been a nearly non-stop ride since! But, although tiring, it is fun and the girls who work their are amazing. It has helped me to feel connected and inspired. Look at these beautiful things--how could you not?! Plus, it makes my tendency to "buy for others" affordable. Because we all know, I love nothing more than to spoil friends and family with gifts!

Pencil Us In

I am a dork-- but I am completely in love with this necklace Pencil Us In. Spotted it in Chicago, and have been thinking of it ever since. I haven't done the whole "fake big eyeglasses" trend (and never will), but this seems like a nice albeit similar nod to the academic/librarian look :-) It is on my wish list.

Organizing and throwing out years of stuff

Hey all,

Apparently I am a hoarder! I just kept swinging home (Ohio, Africa, Bangladesh, DC, Boston, AZ) and dumping anything meaningful in my closet, under my bed or even in my brother's closets. Well, as I return home, I realized I was getting stifled from piles of things from high school. I guess I don't really need to see my high school senior prom dress in my closet everyday. Yikes!!

Step one, a great lesson from Real Simple magazine, take a shoe box- cut it in half and put your bras and underwear in the dividers. Later at Target I found that they were selling these very types of drawer dividers for $19! Well, now that my senior prom SHOES are in a storage bin, I can cut it up and put it to use. But seriously, how funny is the name on one of my shoe boxes--- see below, it was literally telling me to put it to use!! I will spare you pictures of my underwear drawer-- but suffice it to say I am very pleased with this new organizational system!
