Somehow Korey and I managed to drive 1.5 hours to meet Rach and Dan who live in Orlando and NOT get a picture!!! What were we thinking?! I have a hunch it was the rain. . . We met up and went to the beach, when after 15 minutes it started to pour! But- coming from the desert- it was actually very fun to be around rain! So we ran to the beachside bar, sat on the covered porch and stayed for 5+ hours catching up, eating, and drinking. It was very indulgent and a great way to spend the day.
Sunday we caught a late flight out. We had originally planned to go snorkeling, but exhausted and feeling like it would be too much of a rush, we opted to do the historic Bonnet house. This is an old mansion founded by a man who wanted to get away from the World's Exhibition in Chicago so he escaped to Florida. After getting off the train, he chartered a sail boat and after a rough storm washed up onto what became Ft. Lauderdale. He wound up owning over 600 acres. Then, he gifted this house to his daughter and her famous artist husband, Frederic Bartlett. The history and pics can be found here: http://www.bonnethouse.org/ No pictures are allowed in any of the rooms.
It is the only piece of property like this remaining in Ft. Lauderdale. We loved it! The 12:30 tour ended at 2 and we were able to make it to the airport right on time.

Any of the paintings with a yellow frame were originally painted by Frederic and were ceiling panels at another of their homes. I tried to take as many pictures as I could of the collection. Can you imagine all of these whimsical images on a celining?! LOVE! I overheard some ladies in our tour whispering, "so strange"... lol but Korey and I were fans.

The family LOVED animals, so there were all of these statues - these are carousel animals. How fun!!!

red door entry to his work space. ACTUALLY- Frank Lloyd Wright was a family friend, and during one of his many visits he told Frederic how much he hated this one architecture feature in the room. After that, Frank was never invited back!!
