I AM A HATER OF FOOD EATERS IN LIBRARIES. (*now, I have been an offender, but I have done so in the more open rooms!)
Allow me to vent,
While I understand that I have some food phobias around eating in public-- I think everyone would agree with THIS!
There is one last place where it is against the rules to eat...and it's a library. I am really, really, really sick of people eating while staring at their computer screens in complete denial that their munching is not effecting those around them. I did not wake up, pack my lunch dinner & snacks, drive to the Harvard Law library so that I could sit through a woman eating her morning bagel. Nope. She has been eating it for 20 minutes and it's all I can think about. I have given her multiple dirty looks- but she remains oblivious. I put my headphones on, but the crunching/licking/and spreading of more cream cheese is driving me mad. My pandora mix of piano tunes is no match to drown out the breakfast sounds. I HATE HER.
Similarly, there was this interaction the other day in the reading room at Fletcher-the bastion of silence.
undergrad opens a Chipotle burrito
me+sophia approach him,"hey, no food in here, sorry"
him"but its the table"
us"what the what!?"
him"making the noise"
us"what the what?! there's no food in the library, ever, go"
him "but, i have a table"
us "there are tables outside"
him"can i eat at them?"
Sigh. I know I sound trite. But it really really is distracting. Step into the hallway, eat, and then return. I don't want to have to hide myself in a study carol with freaking wings on it like some horse with blinders just because you can't stop eating in the library.
