At the conclusion of the 10-week Stepping Stones course, the four participating peer groups: Older men, Older women, Younger Men, and Younger Women gather together to review their lessons and group findings/discussions. They invite local leadership to attend and watch their demonstrations/role plays as well as observe their work in the form of large drawings depicting their dreams and visions for themselves over the next 5 years. I went about 2 weeks ago and it was really great. The participation level was wonderful to witness and they all put a lot of effort into their role plays. Each village had lots of dancing and songs, and in the last village the women gifted me with necklaces- some took their metal necklaces off of their necks or braceletsand put onto mine. It was very sweet and a tender moment for me in the field.
Young men role play about the negative aspects of drinking/encroaching on another man's wife
Young men role play strategizing with a seer (traditional fortune teller) about shooting up a car and stealing the belongings (used to happen back in the day)
Young men attack vehicle/driver
Old men use three "freeze" frame images to depict their dreams: First, they plant seeds ,
Second, they shoo away the birds
and last but not least, they enjoy the hard work of their harvest by drinking the local booze made from the harvested sorghum.
Then the young women's group performed their goat skit :)
After some dancing (in which they had me join lol) we raced to the next village . . .
