An unplanned trip home, and back to Uganda again!

Well as many of you know, I decided at the last minute to take the advice of my bosses (they are so supportive!) and also listen to what my heart was telling me - and take the medical leave back to the US for testing. It has been a long 10 weeks of ups and downs in the health department. Luckily it isn't all bad all the time, and often it is just "so-so" some of the time. But, when I found out I wasn't making much progress and that the amoebas were killed (yay!) but there was still something else happening I was starting to think maybe I should consider more tests at home. I went to bed that night resolute that I would stay the course and head back to Moroto for work. The opposite happened. I woke up exhausted and tired, and was covered in sweat by breakfast time. I raced to the doctors and by the time I got there I was winded, dizzy, and too weak to hold my cell phone. I was fed up and just bawled in his office. When I emailed the bosses, they agreed - time to go home! So within 48 hours I was en route to the US. This meant that I had just the few clothes I had packed for Kampala, no books or anything, some technology but no cords and no cell phone for the US. But it didn't matter, I was ready to sleep for days. There will be pictures to follow (when i can get back to Moroto and get my cords!) But overall there was actually lots of family time mixed in with great food and lots of resting and recuperation. I had my appointment with Infectious Disease, and the results came back today that everything tested negative. So, it is still baffling, but at least I know my kidney and liver are fine, I don't have TB, and I don't have brucellosis. What do I have? Uncertain. But, I will continue to monitor. My hunch (hope!) is that it is just a virus that rocked me and it will very soon be fading away . . . I am looking forward to vacation in July. That ticket is booked and I can't wait! However, at the moment another 4 days of travel each way doesn't sound so appealing. But, that is probably because I had the 2 worst flights back to back and as I type this from brussels airport I am praying my third leg goes a lot, lot better!! I hit the ground running in Uganda- which is for the best. Activity is good! No use being idle in the middle of nowhere! I am grateful for everyone, especially the parents, for always taking good care of me and sending me positive energy :) Love to everyone!! Big hug and a Brussels chocolate bar to you.
