Fourth of July, Part I

I threw a fourth of July bash for the office and all the friends I have made so far in Lira. It was a smashing success! There were over 60 people in attendance. It was a true cultural exchange- complete with American dishes, games, and music. Thank GOD my friends from Fletcher came up from Kampala to help with the preparation. One of my sisters remarked, "It is a good thing that they came, or your dinner party would have been a breakfast party."
Richard (Fletcher student from Lira) and Janet (colleague) peeling potatoes at "my" house.
Joseph (friend & business owner, with chickens) Bonnie (yellow shirt), and boda driver
Trying to make balloons into water balloons...
Kitchen :) Three fires
Cooking for 60
Sending the first of many shipments of food from the house to the office, each bike rider gets 500 Uganda shillings each way, so that's roughly 50 cents for a total trip.

The staff came up with the decorations... when we arrived from cooking we were surprised to see the nice touch of USA on each balloon.

Some of the party-goers.. Chris's children plus two girls from town
from left, Chris' wife and grandma (yellow scarf), a brother-in-law, my neighbors who I LOVE James and Isaac- they are twins, Fred (in pink shirt) who drove the motorcyle through the 'river', and my friend Katherine a teacher at Saint Mary's Aboke School and her date.
Water balloon toss!!!! A HUGE hit... once I post video you will see :)
Richard and Emily-- two saints!
