Doing the little things now, to save myself from big things later

My week has been dedicated to the real-world tasks, or at least the world we live in today.  Everything I am doing this week is a bit scary. Ok, not everything, but when it comes to registering the car in Massachussetts, there has been a lot of paperwork to keep straight. It is sad how complicated things have become. Even more troubling is how removed society has made the very companies/services that were meant to be customer focused. Calling Geico, Chase Auto Loans, and dealing with the RMV has been a nightmare. The good news is that I am half way there to getting my car parking permit for the street. After a 5 hour wait, with constant phone calls to Chase Auto and pleading with agents at the RMV with wicked Boston accents to accept my title and power of attorney on my car, I finally got my Mass plates and registration. Tomorrow I am going to the Somerville (my district) Department of Parking to pick up my parking permit. Then I have to take my car to get inspected & approved. THEN I can park on the street.
I was mentally prepared to stay in line at the RMV for about 2 hours--not 5. Of course- only me!- I was stuck near a boy that I very sketchily caught on my camera. If you know how to get video onto my blog- let me know. You can't really hear his shoes, so let me describe the horror. This toddler was sporting red shoes that had little horns that squeeked like clown shoes in the heels. Every time he walked he surprised himself with the noise, and loved it. It was a vicious cycle. And, his dad was of the "not a fan of supervising" ilk. So with the shoes and the music, the fluorescent lights, the constant beeping from the counter checker announcing which kiosk was available- I am happy to be alive and not have a headache anymore.

The second thing I did was force myself to back up my computer with my fancy/expensive backup hard drive. It was meant to be user friendly but it is still confusing me a bit, but I do believe I successfully backloaded my docs and prevented a future catastrophe.

Last, I FINALLY forced myself to take try a lock on my gym locker for swim practice. Last year I called home and asked for a lock I read about in "Real Simple". It was recommended that this lock was exactly that-- real simple. And even better, it was easy to remember b/c instead of numbers--it has letters. Perfect! This was especially appealing after last week when I forgot my locker code at school and then once I retrieved it and wrote it down- I wound up putting it in my locker. Dummy. So third thing which when I get it going correctly will hopefully save me time and money in the long run.
