Jillian Visits Phoenix!

Jillian visited Phoenix for a work event-- and so I made arrangements for my trip to see Korey overlap with lil'miss Jilly. I can't even begin to say how great it was to catch up with an old Fletcher friend. She wanted the whole tour before her red-eye flight out on Saturday night. After my interview and some cleaning up I scooped up Jill and we came back to the house and did a tour with wine :) Korey got home and we went to the Original Burrito Company- it's an amazing local Mexican restaurant that is cheap and good. After that we went to the movies. Korey and I had been looking forward to seeing Safehouse with Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington. It had all the makings for a great show- South Africa, World Cup, awesome actors, and CIA suspense. But, the violence was overdone. We all agreed that the sound was so loud it made is all wince when another highspeed chase/shootout was about to happen. Too bad, but at least we went out :)

The next morning we redeemed the previous night with sleeping in and then heading to Brunch at local hotspot  (new to all of us) in Scottsdale- The Breakfast Club. I had seen there was a centennial celebration- parade included- with a local art show. We had a lovely couple of hours perusing the galleries in Old Town Scottsdale in addition to the festivities.

After a hot couple of hours, it was time for a sugar fix. I had seen the Sugar Bowl (check out history here Sugar Bowl  ) but the crowd always scared me away. Not this weekend- we had to bite the bullet and go into the not so nice overflow room- but the ice cream treats were well worth it!! The Sugar Bowl is a historical gem, and was a favorite of the Family Circus writer.

And then it was off to the Phoenix Botanical Gardens where I had scored us 1/2 price tickets on Groupon. We hit the park at just the right time, the sun was low on the horizon and cast a beautiful shade of pink and orange over the gardens.

After 2 hours at the gardens Jillian had promised her boyfriend she would try In-N-Out Burger on his behalf. Satisfied and exhausted, we wrapped up the weekend whirlwind with some beers and dropped Jill off at the airport. It was so sad!! Perhaps I can make it to her Boston graduation...
