Antiquing!

For as long as I can remember my mom and dad have talked about the antique stores in Kansas City. What seems like forever ago, but was really just about 2 weeks back, we made the weekend trip to KC. It was a blast. I had tried the "Priceline Negotiatior" for my first time and was pleased when I snagged 2 rooms for the price of 1! By Friday night it seemed like all of our odds were stacked against this trip:
1.) The first big snow storm of the year was expected--threatening 11inches
2.) Dad had worked like 2 weeks straight
3.) I had found a slew of jobs that needed applying to

But, we decided, life is short. So at 7:30AM we hopped in the car and 3 hours later we were arriving at our first antique shop. It was super cute, had tons of independent stands with a variety of stuff.

We found a couple of neat finds for Nick & Nicki's wedding- mainly the rehearsal dinner. I got a cool old word game, pictures to follow...have to have the folks get pictures!

Next stop was an antique salvage store. This was a pretty cool place, decent prices if you were looking for a light fixture with a wow factor, but everything else was ridiculously high priced. They had rows and rows of old knobs, doors, hardware, some fireplace fronts, and lots of chandeliers and reclaimed tiles.

It was time to check into our hotel and freshen up for dinner. We went to Lidia's, an amazing restaurant in the old Union Station. Their website doesn't do the ambiance justice! There were huge light installments that were def. chihully inspired, blown glass in various colors assembled onto giant metal cones.  http://www.lidias-kc.com/

The next morning I joined the folks for a new shop that they hadn't been too either. It was amazing and by far the first stop for anyone who is seriously looking for great finds for their house! After a lot of looking... and thinking, I had to get what my dad said was his favorite piece. Now that I am in Phoenix, dad gets to enjoy my table until I save enough money for a place big enough for a beautiful mahogany hallway table with pink marble top :) We also found many fabrics at this one lady's part of the store. She must have worked at a fabric store, because she had piles upon piles of fabric samples. Each piece was between $1-$2. I found a lot of similar colors that I can one day put to use either in frames, a headboard or quilt!
It was a great get away and just what I needed as an incentive to get home and crank out some more job applications. Turns out, one of those applications turned into a job! More on that later, but it came at a great time. I tell you, these pictures can't do justice to the long ass struggle unemployment takes on a soul. Thank God for wonderful family and friends, who helped to guide me, love me and remind me that  I always had ways to make the most of each day.
