Over the summer I became quite close to certain people in the communities I was working in. When I was leaving, I received a number of letters, usually requesting that we be "pen friends". The Ugandan term for pen-pals. So, that's easy enough! My favorite letter, though, came in the form of an application. It is a special letter, and I don't mean to mock the content of the letter at all. However, you will agree, it is one unique format. Keep in mind that I knew her, and all of this information... This is just the cover letter to her more personal 2 page note with picture.
Here's how it goes (but handwritten):
To the Office of Emily
DEAR MADAM
Ref: Application for Creating Afriend Ship
I here to submit in my application for above mention post. I am a Ugandan by nationality, age of 23 years old, am a female, am married, I have two children, am a resident of above mention address.
Emily, I will be very greatful if you put my application in to your consideration.
