I always knew I moved at a fast pace, and liked to be busy-- but Fletcher is taking it to a whole new level! Last week was crazy, great-- but crazy. We had one week of orientation, with the morning starting at 9 and ending usually by 5, but then there was a different evening event every night as well. The anticipation/anxiety for classes was definitely building during the orientation workshops on writing and reading in grad school. Turns out I need to get up to speed on taking notes on the computer! I also found out my advisor, but I am not sure how many times I will meet with him. Some students just meet once, it all depends on the fit and the thesis topic. Here is my advisors intimidating bio:
"Co-founder of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative at Oxford University. He is the co-author of Practical Idealism: Changing the World and Getting Paid and has been the Executive director of ACCION International and Oxfam America. He was the founder and first director of the Tufts Feinstein International Center focused on humanitarian aid in zones of armed conflict. He serves on the Board of several US non-profits, including the Human Development and Capability Association. He was born in Cuba and now splits his time between Boston and Oxford."
Pretty cool.
I am "shopping for courses" today. Setting-up 2 years worth of required courses is a headache to say the least, but at least it is because there are an abundance of classes I would like to take as opposed to classes which look boring. Which is good, considering I am paying for it :)
As soon as I get my schedule I will let you know.
In social news, I threw a party on Sunday night! I figured why not?! So about 40 people showed up and we had a great time. I spent the day in the kitchen making Nohner favorites like caramel chex mix, guac. salad, and cucumber water. I even tried my own new recipes for veggie kabobs and mojitos. Huge hit! All the food was devoured, much to my roommates dismay... we were looking forward to feasting on the leftovers for the week. Much thanks to my brothers who added to my ITunes library over the summer, I had a playlist that won big compliments--which says a lot considering the people in the house were from all over the world.
