Over the weekend a group of us decided we could make it to Kidepo National Park and back. We left very early Saturday morning. About an hour into the drive the shocks in the car in front of us gave out. Those in our car weakly voiced up offers to stay behind, while each hoping nobody would actually make us give up the trip! Luckily, those in the other car obliged- so it was onward'ho for our car!! After a beautiful drive and a local lunch, we arrived in about 5 hours later in Kidepo National Park.
Scenery
Sign that we have arrived!! (Jurassic Parkish isn't it?!)
Evening walking safari with our guide (armed!) led to lots of little/big discoveries. Above are bird nests, below- a big bug!
The sausage tree- aptly named for the sausage link looking fruits
scenery as sun sets
elk
woohoo!! we found some giraffe right as we popped up over a hill. they crowded round the baby to protect it from our peering eyes.
me in my "zebra" shirt . . . soon after we saw zebra! :)
guide points out elephant poop and explains to us that our driver should watch out for this! many cars puncture the tires from driving over this poo! Apparently the elephants don't chew very well, nor digest, so the thorns remain! Also, the fruits/seeds of many plants remain intact, so the elephant is to thank for the randomly scattered palm trees and vegetation throughout the park :)
Similar to the parks in the US- the buffalo are among the most spotted animals in the park!
Now we are talking!! 3 hours into the drive we spotted these 2 lions- one male and female!!
their eyes were incredible- more pictures (and much better quality) are to come from a friends camera- she took tons!
The other female wasn't close behind!
Nicky captures the moment! See how close we are!?
Warthog in the mud :)
OK more pictures later of elephants and such! Gotta run to a meeting!!
