Now that I am in a 9-5, the weekends have become mission critical for fun time :) Korey and I are both prone to making "work" (ala projects) into an activity. As we are learning--the projects could be endless and we need to stop our work-focused selves every now and then to get out and about, try new things, and enjoy some quality time --without paint brushes :) Friday night we went to a new Indian restaurant that my cousin Kate's friends had recommended. I have been getting my Indian fix from the place down the street, and while they are decent, it is pricy. This new place was great! Gotta love feasting on some naan paneer (cheese bread), spinach and cheese curry, and for Korey- some chicken curry. Saturday morning we set out on our way ...
| My morning must have |
| Korey's must have (poor guy and his cold/allergies!) |
| ooooooooohk so this wasn't "fun" per se but at least it wasn't a disagreement about what rock would look good in the back yard |
| every girl's dream- the "rock" store |
| Bingo! Coco Brown it is! We will take 5 tons. No, seriously! |
Next stop-- garage sale time. I found some plants on Craig's List-- instant garden!!
Then it was off to the Scottsdale Art Festival- found 1/2 price Groupon for this highly recommended event. It draws about 40,000 people each year. All of the artists are panel reviewed - so no junk here ;) |
| all of these are bottle caps- and yes, the banana rocks |
| hidden Scottsdale Oasis- the Civic Center where the event was held- the outdoor space |
| beautiful gardens-smelled amazing! |
| desert yard art |
| pretty much the coolest thing- this planter can spin, and you look through the viewfinder. A plant kaleidoscope!! |
| this stuff was cool--it was being auctioned to fundraise for the event |
| beautiful glass work- love the "floats" in the bottom baskets- they are for fountains- reminded me of Chihuly |
| Sure enough, I called it- this gal was from MN. Birch tree lamps |
| The Machine Artist- super neat! After seeing Hugo last week, I am impressed by any gear contraption :) |
| Ok this was a restaurant nearby. I saw their fireplace and showed Korey- "now THAT is an Emily fireplace!!" :) |
location- this is 2 blocks from my office, and the art show was 5 blocks
Then it was off to our family friend's birthday party for their youngest son who turned 1. Yes, 1. He is a big cute guy. Happiest baby ever... but can make a very serious face :) |
| neighborhood kids on trampoline |
| Korey on phone. . . |
| watching over the pool! |
| The birthday boy!!! |
| chow-down on cheeseballs begins! |
| World's largest glass- I am fine with that!! |
| Birthday boy and his bro- continue the cheeseball face stuffing |
| Cute cake! |
| The set-up |
And after it all- Korey and I went home, had dinner and watched Game Change (see old post). It was incredibly well acted and a great insight into the many layers of politics and politicians.
