Korey's Wild Africa Adventure: Day One!

Korey made it to Africa! After 3 flights, and 24 hours of travel, he arrived at 11pm in Uganda on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, one of his first experiences was to be pulled over by the cops at a checkpoint b/c our taxi driver decided to try and dodge the police. Classy move cab driver! We managed to get through the situation just fine. Sunday was a whirlwind of activity, because I wanted to a) keep Korey from falling into jet lag and b) we had to make the most of our only day in Kampala! So it started with a decent coffee and breakfast at a cafe near the hotel and a visit with Finola who joined us for some of our tourist visits :)
Stop 1: The taxi park

Just one picture of the hundreds of taxi buses
Finola and Korey on the hill overlooking the mess of the taxi park (can you imagine trying to put security in place here? Forget about it!)

Stop 2: Kampala Craft Fair

Rows of shops, with jewelry, clothes, woodwork--everything! Korey stocked up on some souvenirs and we took cover in a store during a torrential rainstorm! :)

Stop 3: Ba'hai Temple

Only 1 on each continent! Gorgeous and just outside the heart of town, it is such a wonderful oasis!

Loved this prayer :)

Stop 4: The Tombs of the Kings of Buganda

Learned all about the history of Kings in the Buganda Kingdom, and saw some of their old (and original!) huts.

Stop 5: Cultural Center

This was a fun stop! I had heard about this dance event with a cultural buffet dinner, but had no idea it was going to be this great. It was a beautiful outdoor theater and the show lasted over 3 hours! The days schedule caught up with us and we had to leave early--too darn tired! But it was a lot of fun.

Tons of costume changes!

The "shaker" being passed around stops at Korey :) It means he is expecting a baby lol

Cool guys drumming, and then dancing/kicking legs while drumming! It was incredible!
