As I worked on my millionth job application. . . Korey spent the weekend tearing up his loft. Today I met with the electrician and Joe the Amazing Stair Guy lol. He is seriously amazing, check out his online album:
http://www.amazingstairways.com/gallery.php He had the ingenious idea of connecting the loft spaces in each room-- the master and guest room, by going over the hallway. So, now we are working towards making one giant upstairs room! The thing with the spiral staircase is that it isn't up to code. In order to enter into a space, a stair should have at least 80inches of clearance (thanks Amazing Joe!) and we have 40. Soooo a ladder will be installed at a 45 degree angle, and he is going to knock out some space to go over the toilet so Korey doesn't lose floor space.

Happy to have all the bins/storage moved out and the shag carpet ripped out!

Adios shaggy

The staircase and space. The wall on the left will be knocked out if Amazing Joe's plan works!

Korey interrupts the application process to show me the world's biggest 'For Sale' sign.
Here is the guest bedroom loft space-- with the most horrendous ladder-straight up.
Matt the electrician just came over and we went over lighting options for the house. We def. need some lights in the living room, as it is way too dark now that we have great solar screens on the front windows. Matt is one cool dude. Kinda hipster and very energetic. When I asked him where he recommends looking for light fixtures he gave me the typical response of the 2 box stores out here. Then, I said, well I mean I wouldn't mind doing some refurbishing or painting. They don't have to be matchy matchy. And that's when Matt shared the best little nugget of insight-- "I can make a light out of anything"! Apparently his gf and him have been making lights out of old birdcages. On the weekend they rummage for cool cages. Amazing. The hunt is on to find the coolest knick-knack to turn into lights :)
Many have asked (I would too) if I am moving in, or what the deal is. For the record- I am searching for jobs, focusing in child protection, psychosocial support, and emergency response. Given the current economy, I feel very blessed that my state of unemployment angst can be spent at Korey's or back home. I aim to get overseas while I can, but I am not dismissing any work in these areas within the U.S. In the meanwhile, given the state of uncertainty--(will it be 3 weeks or a year until I find a job), I am trying to keep my head held high. Finding even little part time gigs locally has been a challenge, but I am feeling hopeful that my SitterCity job applications will come through for me. Ice cream and creative outlets help in times when it becomes all a little too worrisome. Thus, Korey's house has provided me the perfect environment to tinker, craft, and accomplish little tangible outcomes. Of course, he is the best thing in it.
Great job Korey! Can't wait to see the completed loft!
